Description

{Family Asteraceae} Arrow-leaved Balsamroot is a beautiful desert sunflower common among ponderosa pine and sagebrush on the dry arid hillsides of south-central B.C. and down into the United States. The leaves, large and a velvety olive green, dry into a parchment-like appearance and feel.

Grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun, such as a border or rock garden. It may die back in wet winters. Seed should be sowed in a cold frame in autumn, or directly outside in spring. Established clumps can be divided in spring. It may be prone to rust.

This genus of 10-14 species of perennials come from Western North America.
