Description A self-clinging climber with orange-red trumpet blooms, Campsis will gracefully cover walls and pergolas. A shower of exquisite flowers becomes apparent from late summer to mid autumn. Performs best in a slightly sheltered position and is ideal for a south-facing wall where it will perform well. Also suitable for obelisks, trelliswork and even twining through shrubs. A native of Northern America where Campsis is often seen growing wild. The name is from the Greek ‘kampsis’ which means a curve, in allusion to the curved stamens of the flower and ‘radicans’ which refers to the plants aerial roots. Height 30 feet (10 m). Hardy in most parts of the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia and North America USDA Zones 4-9.
