Description
Rough and tough big flowers have the most exquisite deep mauve-purple petals in the flower world. A valuable tall perennial in the border. Blooms July to September. Dead head regularly and cut the whole plant back to 15cm (6 in) in late fall. For medicinal information, please consult reference books or specialists. Easy to start from seed, very hardy, sun or part shade, to 90cm (3 ft) tall, drought tolerant. Start seeds in a nursery bed and move to a permanent spot at the back of the border. Approx. 200 seeds/g. Echinacea is derived from the Greek word for hedgehog and refers to the sharp spines on the flower head. This plant is native to North America, especially across the central prairie regions.
