Description

All-American Selections Winner for 1999. Tall spikes of warm colours--- yellow, orange and red give this plant its other name Torch Lily or Red Hot Poker. Plants started in January flower from July to September in the first year. Can be grown in patio containers (deep ones as Kniphofia has a deep tap root) or in the border.

Germinates in 14-20 days at 20-22C (68-72F), then grow on at 15-18C (60-64F). Do not cover seeds as they need light to germinate. Space 30cm (1 ft.) apart in all directions, don’t crowd them. Blooms 4 weeks earlier than other Kniphofia. In the winter in colder areas, bind leaves together and mulch crown to overwinter. Stems are 80cm (32 in) topped with 20cm (8 in) spikes. Approx. 450 seeds/g.
