Cucurbita pepo 'Lunga Di Napoli (Gourd of Naples)'
|
Description
An ornamental gourd only, please do not eat this variety - it doesn't taste very good at all! It's pretty shape makes it popular for birdhouses and other decorative uses such as vases, shakers, etc., as well as lovely centrepieces.
Start outdoors once all danger of frost has passed. Gourds do not transplant well, so seed directly in the final position. Sow seed 2cm (3/4in) deep and 60cm (2ft) apart - these are large plants! They like hot weather and sunny locations, well drained and fertile soil. Keep soil moist as fruit are forming for best results.
