Description
(Family Scrophulariaceae) This perennial is semi-evergreen, with tall narrow branching spikes of small flowers. These are yellow with purple to red-brown centres and appear during summer and autumn. The clumps of leaves are oblong shaped, mid-green with furry undersides. The spikes reach 2-3ft (60-100cm), and can spread 2ft (60cm). The plant may be short-lived.
The plant is fully hardy. Grow it in full sun for best results, but it will grow in partial shade. It needs well-drained soil. Stake if necessary, and remove fading spikes for repeat blooms. Propagate by seed in spring or late summer, or by root cuttings in winter.
This plant comes from Europe and Asia.
